Raccoon Transit - Terms of Use

These terms cover Raccoon Transit in every form it comes in: this website, the browser extensions, and the apps for phones and tablets. By using any of them you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Raccoon Transit.

What Raccoon Transit is

Raccoon Transit shows live transit departures, weather, and air quality as a pixel-art scene. It is free, there is no account, and there is nothing to sign in to. How we handle the little data involved is described in our privacy policy.

Using it

You are welcome to use Raccoon Transit for your own personal, noncommercial purposes: checking when your bus leaves, keeping the scene on your new tab page, putting a widget on your home screen. Sharing a link to a stop with a friend is fine too.

What you may not do

The transit, weather, and air quality data Raccoon Transit shows belongs to the agencies and data providers who supply it, and we are allowed to show it to you only on conditions. So, when using Raccoon Transit, you agree not to:

• copy, redistribute, republish, sell, rent, or share the data it shows with anyone else, including data brokers;
• charge anyone for access to that data, or build a paid product or service on it;
• remove or hide any copyright, trademark, attribution, or other proprietary notice;
• scrape, crawl, or harvest the data by automated means, or combine it with data scraped from anywhere else;
• send more requests than an ordinary person using the site or app would, or do anything that interferes with, overloads, or disrupts Raccoon Transit or the services it relies on;
• reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise try to extract the interfaces Raccoon Transit uses to get its data; or
• use Raccoon Transit or its data for anything unlawful.

Where the data comes from

Departures come from the transit agencies in each city and from the data providers who relay their feeds, weather from Open-Meteo, and air quality from the U.S. EPA AirNow program. Each of them sets its own terms, and your use of their data through Raccoon Transit is subject to those terms as well as to these. The About screen names the sources for the city you are viewing and links their terms where they publish them. Raccoon Transit is not affiliated with or endorsed by any transit agency or data provider.

No warranty

Raccoon Transit and all of the data it shows are provided AS IS and AS AVAILABLE, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Departure times are predictions, and predictions are sometimes wrong: buses and trains run early, late, or not at all, feeds go down, and a trip can be canceled without the feed saying so. Reminders and live tracking can arrive late or not arrive. Always allow yourself some margin, and do not rely on Raccoon Transit for anything where a wrong or missing time could put someone's safety at risk.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, neither we nor our data providers and licensors will be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any missed trip, lost time, or lost data, arising out of or relating to your use of Raccoon Transit or of the data it shows, however caused and even if we were told it might happen. Some places do not allow certain of these limits, in which case they apply only as far as the law there allows.

Changes

We may change Raccoon Transit, stop offering any part of it, or update these terms at any time. When we update the terms we will change the date below, and continuing to use Raccoon Transit after that means you accept the updated terms.
